Personal value orientation is the most important factor determining human behavior and activity. The paper deals with the problem of the formation of personal value orientations of students in the process of teaching mathematics. One of the objectives of the study was to study and compare the value orientations of students with different age characteristics. Another goal is to reveal the dependence of value orientations on students' progress in mathematics. There are various standards, criteria and approaches to the definition of basic values and, according to these values, to the characterization of a person's personal value orientations. We used the method of M. Rokeach. Both terminal and instrumental basic values were taken into account. They are modified and differ somewhat from those put forward by M. Rokeach. This is due both to age characteristics and to the uniqueness of the Armenian environment. The research was carried out in Akunk secondary school of Kotayk region. For the first goal, students in grades 7 and 10 were selected, and for the second goal, students in grades 8 and 9 were selected. The paper shows that both the age factor and academic performance in mathematics significantly affect the value orientations of students.
